Rodeo Houston FAQ and Format

Welcome to the “New World” of RodeoHouston

RodeoHouston is one of the United States oldest and longest running rodeos.  But this year, RH takes rodeo tradition and launches it into a whole new orbit that they believe will rock the rodeo world!  In this new world of rodeo, the 2020 RodeoHouston breaks ties with the PRCA, goes invitation only, and offers a total purse worth $1.75M!

280 invitations were sent out to some of the world’s top rodeo athletes who will be competing from March 3-22 at NRG Stadium.

New tradition comes with a new format in 2 separate, major money events - the Super Series and the Super Shootout.

The Super Series

RodeoHouston kicks off the Super Series, on March 3, running till March 22.  Rodeo athletes compete in a bracket-like tournament format, for a piece of a $1.25M+ prize package. The Super Series consists of five three-day series, two Semifinal rounds, a Wild Card round and a Championship.  Each event champion takes home $50,000 plus previous round winnings, a custom-made saddle, a belt buckle and an automatic invite to next year’s RH!

You can follow each athlete in every event on the RodeoHouston website.  Choose the event, then click on an athlete to see their information including scores, times and money earned. For example:

Super Shootout – Sunday March 15

The second major money event to rock RodeoHouston this year is the Super Shootout, sponsored by Crown Royal.  This proves to be
one of the richest one-day rodeos in the US, with a $250,000 purse! Invitation only, and featuring just five of the traditional rodeo events,
there is another neat little twist to this contest – athletes will compete as individuals and with a team.  Each team will include a
bareback rider, barrel racer, bull rider, saddle bronc rider and steer wrestler. Each contestant stands to win $25,000, and the winning
team $12,500.  Contestants in the Super Shootout are reigning champions in their events from all over North America.

What’s Next for RodeoHouston?

RodeoHouston 2020 has launched and it ain’t looking back!  A deal with Fox Sports to air the Super Series finals and Super Shootout was recently inked, and bigger plans are in the works. The goal is to become the top international invitational championship in the world.
