Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo 2020 Closes Due to Covid-19

Show and Rodeo officials and city of Houston leaders made the decision on Wednesday, March 11 to shut down all events.

"This year’s cancellation delivers a cultural and economic punch to Texas’ biggest city, and it comes just days after South by Southwest’s shutdown did the same to Austin. Billed as the world’s largest livestock show, the Houston Rodeo typically draws 100,000 visitors each weekend. Last year’s total attendance for the three-week event was 2.5 million. According to rodeo figures, the 2019 event generated $277 million."

Today, the Event posted on its Instagram and Facebook accounts:

"We are deeply saddened by the recent closing of the 2020 Rodeo and the impact this has had on our livestock and horse show exhibitors. The Rodeo will be refunding all entry fees for exhibitors who were unable to compete. Additionally, the Rodeo is working on a plan to support our junior exhibitors and that plan will be announced soon. We thank our exhibitors for their support of #RODEOHOUSTON.
